This little hashtag was a bit of a fun thing for myself and Aly to start back six months ago (how massively pregnant were we in this video?! seriously though - sometimes Aly will just send me a screenshot of us in that video to make me howl - so very pregnant) but we have been so inspired by all the amazing women that have been supportive and are using it to share pictures the stuff that makes them come alive. It's so cool for us to know that over 12 000 images have been shared from mothers all over the world - seriously! Brazil, USA, Australia, LEEDS (haha, joking - Leeds is awesome). Seeing images of tender family moments, of mums finding joy in their work outside the home, in their creative pursuits, it's all so inspiring. As cool as that is, we really just love connecting with other mums who share our mutual love for Instagram and so we thought we would try and use the hashtag to hook up with local mums and host a fun photowalk to celebrate World Wide Instameet Day!
We congregated at The Mac in Belfast and totally lucked out in having such a beautiful sunny day to stomp around Belfast together. There were 25 or so of us, plus an army of beautiful kiddos in prams, on foot and in slings (kiddos that were incredibly patient and brilliant fun, might I add). Aly had brilliantly marked out a bit of a walk for us in preparation, covering so many awesome markers in the Cathedral Quarter - there was still a really great buzz and atmosphere lingering from Culture Night the day before.
Classic host-style, I didn't end up taking many pictures myself, too busy gabbing and setting other people up for shots - but here's a taste of the day! (you can see the rest of the pics on our #motherhoodaliveIGmeet hashtag for the day!)
We had hashtag balloons and confetti, some really cool doors and a whole lot of street art (that Kanye one was literally being finished by Visual Waste as we walked past so we were first to get snapped with it!) My own fabulous mum even came along to help with Ada and give me a chance to hang out with everyone. She loved it and even made sure she got her own picture with Kanye...!
She's so cute. I barely had to coax this pose out of her. ("mum, pose like a rapper")
A huge massive thank you to all the wonderful mamas that bravely registered and came along to our photowalk on Saturday! It really is a brave thing to put yourself out there to come to meet people you don't know. For anyone to give up their Saturday afternoon to join us loons walking around taking pictures is an honour. I saw such beauty amongst all those women on Saturday - holding each other's babies, making sure each other had a turn in front of the camera, sharing advice and being encouraging. It was really special.
Here's to the next one!
