I may be skipping a step and some of you may feel this is a bit premature but I think it's time to call it a day on Summer. Here in Northern Ireland we've been kind of waiting for Summer to come back since it's disappearance in July and although there have been a couple of days that held some promise, it's safe to say we need to move on. Timelines are now chock full of kids in their back-to-school best, we are starting to notice the nights closing in a bit earlier, the leaves starting to bleed a little into their new colours and the Great British Bake Off is back on the telly. Autumn is on its way.
This point in the year always makes me excited to have a good rummage through my clothes, bring all the layering items into front view in the wardrobe and donate all the jumpers and tops I no longer wear to make room for a couple of new items. This year I'm really ready to have some good quality items on rotation, investing in quality layering basics. Other than knowing who made your clothes, I think the key to having an ethical wardrobe is only buying things that you really love, spending a little more on quality fabrics and making sure that what you buy can be worn with lots of other things in your closet.
I've been loving the new A/W 16 collection from Braintree - so many beautiful rich colour palates and strong basics. Above, I am wearing their Organic Cotton Jumper in my favourite denim-look indigo colour and some distressed black skinny jeans from New Look. I reckon this could be my autumn uniform.
The jumper is light enough to throw on in these early Autumn mornings but would is also great for layering with a nice cream blouse underneath for extra warmth as the days cool off.
There's also this nice little drop bottom detail at the back that gives it some edge - makes it more than just a sweatshirt. Look out for a special discount code for Braintree on my Instagram next week and please do feel free to show us your favourite ethical clothing on social media using the #ethicalfashioncollective hashtag! What are you looking forward to wearing this season?
Another thing I love about the seasons changing is the natural punctuation mark it gives to the year for reflection and making some changes. Of course you can do that at any time during the year, but the change of the season feels more natural, more in tune with life's rhythms, you know?
I have some plans for this space here on the internet that I am really excited for as well as some really exciting new ventures that I can't wait to tell you about. I've been devouring lots of inspirational stuff and am gearing up to make some changes on here that I would love to share with you.
One of the things I'm going to start doing is sending out a monthly newsletter to readers. It will be full of great extra content, free resources that I'm working on, news about new things happening over here and links to some of the very best stuff I've been connecting with and inspired by on the internet. If you are up for having it pinged into your inbox once a month, all you have to do is fire your email address in the box below and it will be all yours (don't forget to confirm)!
Have a great weekend folks!
Big thanks to Braintree for collaborating with me on this post & to Ben Connolly from Angel & Anchor for taking the snaps!
